We are dentist missionaries serving with SIL-PNG in the highlands of Papua New Guinea at Ukarumpa Center. We provide dental care to rural communities and the missionary community that are working on Bible Translation at the center. The closest dentist is a few hours by road. Our family provides oral care to support families and children that have challenges to access to dental services.
The clinic offers medical services and supports the nearby communities. This efforts supports living in a far away location for many missionaries and also supports community development efforts in the area.
The Heart behind our ministry
We are Luis and Claudia Choy, dentists from Lima, Perú.
I (Claudia) am a missionary kid, my parents were pastors of the Alliance Church and they planted the church in Cusco, and then worked in Lima and later went to the jungle in Pucallpa.
I went to the jungle villages when I was 15 years old, and the Lord opened my eyes and showed me the great needs of people living far away from cities and towns. They had no doctors, nurses or dentists and they live in pain, they learn to endure pain.
I chose a medical career because I wanted to do something about it. As a family, we have done dental clinics in villages in the jungle, up high in the mountains of Cusco, and in shanty towns in Lima. We have had the blessing to help people, to ease their pain, to teach them how to take care of their oral health, and showing them God's love through dental care.
We are serving full time with SIL-PNG, after 8 years of running the medical outreach program with Ywam Ships Kona. We have seen the medical ministry opened the door for ongoing Oral Bible Translation to happen along the coast of Madang, PNG! And now, the Lord has opened the door for us to move to the field full time and support Bible Translation, Trainings and God's word to multiply by supporting the Clinic in Ukarumpa (SIL center) in Papua New Guinea.
We want to continue to serve the ones who need it the most, the people that have difficulty accessing health care and reach out to them with love.
