Let's start in the beginning!
Hello! this is my first entry! I knew I had to start a blog, but didn't have the time to do it until now. Life can get really crazy, but here I am....finally starting our family blog. I have to be honest with you, my husband hates writting....or speaking...he is more of doing things, so it will be pretty much me writting and sharing our family's adventure.
Let me start by saying that we are so excited! In a few days we will start training with YWAM Kona as part of the medical mercy ministries. It is really a dream come true. So, I wanted to tell you a Little (I will really try to keep it short) of how we got to this point.
I (Claudia) grew up in a Christian family, my dad was a pastor of the Alliance church and I was born while my parents were planting the church in Cusco. After a few years we went to Lima, and when I was 13 years old, a pastor from Operation Mobilization came to our church to talk about missions. And he showed some videos, about serving others and reaching out with God's love through different ways. And then I saw the video of an amazing ship, Logos II. I was so amazed, my heart was touched, my heart ached for the people in the videos, and I told my parents, I want to go there, and do missions. The first thing my dad told me was to start serving in church, get involve and discover my talents, that way the Lord would show me where or how to serve Him. I went to seminary to be a sunday school preschool teacher. I served since I was 13 in preschool sunday school until I was 15. I didn't know, but something had already happened and God was on the move. My parents moved to the Jungle and I moved with them a year later, (i didn't want to go....I will write about later) and I went on a trip with a medical team for the first time when I was 15, I was the doctor's translator. And that....changed my life completely. There was so much need, for clean water, for health services, for medications. There was no doctor, nurse and to think of a dentist was out of the question. People, God's creation, living with pain. And I knew, God put in my heart a strong desire to do something. So I went to university in Lima and studied dentistry. In my last year I went to the Asheninka's to do my very first dental clinic. After an hour on a small plane from Pucallpa, and 6 hours down the river we got to the village where we had to walk another 30 minutes into the jungle. By then a church from the states bought an I-dent Unit, which is a portable dental chair, for me. And I asked my mom, why would they buy that for me? I didn't know, but God did. I have been on 7 more trips as a dentist with Luis, and now I know what the Dental Unit was for. Now I know why I got a job to do mobile dental clinics at companies in Lima, (which is not a regular job for a dentist), now I know why. Like a Caedmon's Call song I like...."I see the lead of love". God's plan has been there all along, it just took us several years to realice that He has called us to do this, and the joy and happiness it brings to our hearts is because He has prepared us for this. And so now, we are a few days away of starting our training with YWAM KONA, to be missionaries with them and serve and make JesusChrist known through health care ministries.
Please keep us in your prayers, financially we totally depend on the Lord, and we want to trust Him, we want to let Him lead us and we are blessed to be used by Him for His kingdom.
Follow our blog! share our blog! and write us! we are happy to hear about other professionals who want to serve our Lord, and do missions! and that makes us so happy!
Thanks for Reading! and hope you join us in this adventure and let us experience God in new ways and exercise our faith as we trust Him.
Love,
Luis, Claudia and Maria Claudia Choy
