Spreading love & hope - May Update

RE: May 2022 update!

Dear friends,

We hope that in the middle of sad news around the world, you can see God's mercy and hope is also going forward. He reigns.

In May, the medical outreaches continued and with the missions training students they have been serving villages and people around them.

Here are some of our reports from the 2 medical outreaches. Praise the Lord!

Communities Visited: 2

Team: 17 volunteers

Health Education: 180

Wound Care: 16

Medical volunteers: 3

Salvations: 6

Community engagement: 290

Bible distribution: To be confirmed.

The last medical outreach finished last Friday and we haven't received the report yet. One of our nurse assistants was denied boarding and couldn't make it until last friday. But that didn't stop the medical team from going to be a blessing to different villages. No matter big or small, the Lord can use our lives to bring blessing, comfort, peace and joy and remind people of His love.

In partnership with Samaritan's Purse, our staff and trainees were part of Operation Christmas Child Ministries. They went to Nobanob and invited families and children from the mountains to come to learn about the Greatest Gift (Jesus!) The local Sunday School Teachers shared the gospel in their language and invited the children to walk with Jesus. About 800 people came to hear the gospel ! The children received a gift box, packed by people who have prayed for them and thought of them. They were invited to come for 12 lessons to learn more about Jesus and how they can grow in Him and love Him. What a blessing!

The volunteer nurses went to the radio and shared about medical missions! They also did a training class for health care workers at the local hospital and volunteered in the Emergency Room and Labor and Delivery. It is not easy to see a different reality and how people deal with pain and illness. But that is why we go. To bring hope, encouragement, kindness and Jesus.

Here in Kona, it was time to share about Ywam Ships Ministries to the students in the training schools. We invited them to join us! Our team presented, shared stories and hosted a Dessert and Coffee Event to let them know what God is doing through Ywam Ships and how they can get involved. It is so refreshing to see young people with a heart to go, to walk, to distribute bibles, to pray for others, to tell them about Jesus and what He has done for them! So powerful!

I am also working closely with the DTS team going to PNG at the end of June. Getting their visas, training them for health education, to support operation christmas child ministries, cultural training, etc. It is hard to put into words the many little things we do. Phone calls and video calls with volunteers and staff either there or getting ready to go or already back home. I'm taking a course on Member Care and I am excited about learning more!

We are inviting others to join us in Papua New Guinea, French Polynesia and the Philippines !

Luis and his fleet support team are working on a possible trip to Papua New Guinea. Brett Curtis, the director, came back from the ship with lots of projects to complete on board. Fixing, polishing, changing, renewing different areas of the ship as it gets ready for deployment. Luis is the lead for the project and might be flying out the first 2 weeks in August. He might stay a bit longer and do dental outreach as well ! Luis, Vicki, Luke and Joe have been getting parts and pumps for the ship, managing crew situations, contracts, etc.

We got really excited to see the Dental Container pictures. A Ywam base in Germany is completing this project and will be on board the ship ready to serve the islands in Papua New Guinea. It is amazing to see what teamwork can do! We can't wait to have it on board!

Maclau has finished 3rd grade! Her graduation is tomorrow. Wooo hooo! She will be enjoying the summer with her friends. She has grown so much this year. She is looking forward to swimming and playing. Luis' birthday is coming up! (June 9th!).

We have been reminded over and over of God's faithfulness in our lives. As a family, as a married couple, as parents and as missionaries. We have lots to be grateful for. When our hearts are filled with gratitude there is no room for anything else. God's mercy and grace are sufficient for each day.

Prayer Points:

- For the upcoming volunteers and DTS teams getting ready to go to PNG at the end of the month.

- Long term missionaries wanting to join our team in Madang and on board the ship!

- Provision for drydock, necessary for the ship to deploy to serve the islands.

- Luis's possible trip to Papua New Guinea in July.

- Our visa documents (Claudia's and Maclau's) and sent to us.

- My doctor's appointment this week. I will see the GI doctor about the nodule in my pancreas. - Continuous health and wisdom for leading and walking with others in ministry.

We are grateful for your prayers and love.

Warm hugs,

Luis, Claudia & Maclau Choy
